QA Unit Award Scheme

The AQA Unit Award Scheme offers young people the opportunity to have their achievements recognised with a formal certificate each time they successfully complete a short unit.

Young people can complete AQAs in things like preparing a CV, planning a travel route and staying safe online. These nationally recognised qualifications can support young people in applications for education, training and employment, as well as giving them the self-confidence that comes from real, externally-accredited achievement.

AQAs show young people that they are progressing and moving forwards, especially when used with the Outcomes Star™ for capturing achievements.

TLM Essential Digital Skills Qualifications (EDSQ) are available at both Entry Level and Level 1.

These qualifications are mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Essential Digital Skills and are fully funded under legal entitlement for adults (19+) who wish to develop their digital skills. They will also be funded for adults (16-18) who don’t have the basic digital skills they need for life and work through a study programme.
Skill Areas
All five skill areas will be comprehensively covered in both qualifications. These five areas are:

  1. Using devices and handling information
  2. Creating and editing
  3. Communicating
  4. Transacting
  5. Being safe and responsible online

SKILLS FOR EMPLOYMENT

This qualification is designed to support learners of all ages in their journey into the world of work, or change of career, and to equip them with the skills, knowledge and behaviours that will help them make a success of their position. The units cover a diverse range of activities relating to the communication practices at work as well as the laws that would apply to someone in a work place. In addition, supplementary units look at issues of what it is to be a “worker” and by extension a citizen. The qualification looks at the importance and reasons behind good team work and the soft skills in demand by companies in the 21st Century. Similar units allow learners to investigate their rights and responsibilities in the work place, as well as the laws that protect their health and well-being, as well as that of their work colleagues. The qualification also addresses some issues of entrepreneurship and looks at what is required in order to set-up and manage their own company, if they so wish. All of this material is underpinned by the social and psychological requirements of work and personal success.

Level 2 Certificate in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics

This qualification is designed for learners who have an interest in digital security and the threats to IT systems. It is designed to give them a broad understanding of open systems so that they can then apply these to the understanding of threats to IT systems and how to counter these. It would suit any students interested in working in the growing industry related to cyber security, but also students interested in general employment involving IT, networking professions, infrastructure management and data management.

Cisco Cyber Security Essentials

The Cybersecurity Essentials course develops foundational understanding of cyber security and how it relates to information and network security. The course introduces students to characteristics of cyber-crime, security principles, technologies, and procedures to defend networks. Through interactive, multimedia content, lab activities, and multi-industry case studies, students build technical and professional skills to pursue careers in cyber security. Cyber threats now affect all aspects of IT and organisations connected to the Internet, which is almost all.

LEVEL 2 - FOOD SAFETY IN CATERING

Learners have to demonstrate competence against the assessment criteria from their day to day work and the teacher assessor has to verify that they are competent in relation to the general level descriptor using indicative assessment criteria. TLM’s external moderator will check the judgements and the quality of the evidence and provide feedback. This process is not graded, the intention is that it is a flexible way of checking basic practical competence in the subject at the qualifications framework level. This is a 1 credit qualification

LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN EMPLOYMENT SKILLS FOR THE CARE SECTOR

This course is for learners who want to better understand the world of work and are considering working in a range of sectors, including setting up companies in their own communities. It would be useful for people who have been away from the world of work for some time, perhaps raising a family, who want to be re-introduced to what is required of them and how they might make a success of their choices.

Total Credits required to achieve the qualification – 16
